This is an assessment of your overall lung function performance and can be a useful test to monitor disease progression for better or worse over time. It can also be a very important test to determine if home oxygen would be a useful treatment for you. The test is also useful in monitoring your response to: ongoing oxygen therapy, drug treatments, and exercise programs.
The test involves monitoring the level of oxygen in your blood (oxygen saturation) and heart rate during a 6-minute walk on level ground. The level of oxygen and heart rate are measured by placing a small monitor on your skin and does not require any blood samples to be taken.
Throughout this test you will be carefully monitored by one of our experienced staff. If at any stage you become breathless during the test and need to rest this can be factored into the test.
